Bait n Switch Reps

We all know this type of behavior is typical with politicians but it’s rare we get the photos to show the back end dealing. The Republican House leadership has taken to jumping aboard the new anti-oil-addiction campaign started after this year’s state of the union address. House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert pioneered the media event yesterday at a BP gasoline station featuring their commitment to alternative energy sources, featuring a hydrogen-powered car and even eluding to driving back to the office in a blue General Motors HydroGen 3 van.

This Washington DC event followed one by Senate Democrats the previous Wed. afternoon at an Exxon station, whom lay blame to the Republicans for high fuel prices.

In the photo (right), House Speaker Dennis Hastert of Ill., gets out the GM Hydro (left), just blocks after driving off from the BP station, only to ditch the fuel efficient ride for his, gas guzzling armored SUV. Other members of Congress also participated in the show, also only to switch to their official cars and drive back the few blocks to the U.S. Capitol.

South Park – Scientology issue

This is the entire Scientology episode of South Park that Tom Cruise tried to force off the air and made Isaac Hayes quit as Chef.

If you haven’t heard about this… Tom Cruise got Comedy Central to cancel a REPEAT of a South Park episode about Scientology (that’s right, the episode has already aired once on the network) by threatening to pull out of his promotion of the shoot ’em up Mission Impossible 3 movie to release this summer. Paramount is owned by Viacom, which also owns Comedy Central is banking on the blockbuster to … well not bust, pulled the show in accordance of the wishes of ol’ Tom.

Regarding Issac Hayes, who participated in the South Park show for years that lampooned every religion, faith, and culture, pulled out of the show because the pressure was put on by the cult… *cough* um I mean the “church” of Scientology, to kill his involvement in the satire. Next you have his response:

“There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins,” the soul legend said. “Religious beliefs are sacred to people and at all times should be respected and honored. As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices.”

Evidently, the place for satire is when the show’s talking about Christianity. Or Judaism. Or Buddhism. Or Islam. Or Hinduism. Or farting Canadians. Or, really, anything that’s not Scientology…

Past episodes of South Park have skewered Catholics, Jews and Mormons, among others. However, according to Stone, he and Parker “never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. “He wants a different standard for religions

Happy St. Patty’s Day and Leprechaun Spotting

Its that time a year again to get your drink on!!! Of course 34.5 million Americans claim Irish decent, however, there’s only 4+ million Irish living in Ireland now…

St. Patty’s is the largest (drinking) holiday of the year and typically conjures stories of the luck o’ the Irish and leprechauns as everyone goes out in their green (or not, for those that like to get pinched). According to legend, leprechauns are aloof and unfriendly, live alone, and pass the time making shoes – and smell like cabbage. They also possess a hidden pot of gold. And today we have some modern day treasure hunters as some folks in Mobile, Alabama have spotted a leprechaun and are looking to take his gold – Gimmie the loot!!! Check out the vid below and keep an eye out for the sketch and holla when you think you’ve spotted em! You know what to do with gold when you catch em right?!
