US-World Spirit

June 30th: Brazil!!! Brazil!!! ohhh Brazil!!

I don’t think any other single sport catches a country’s spirit than the FIFA World Cup. World Cup football is the most watched sport in global athletic competition “The 64 matches were watched by a total television audience estimated at 36 billion, an average of more than 550 million per game. The final alone attracted two billion viewers, roughly a third of the planet.” Brazil took this match up from Germany by a score of 2-0. The three R’s and most notably Ronaldo (scoring 12 goals, a tournament best) took the Brazilan team back to victory.

I watched what I could of the cup this year but being played in Korea it was a little touch to make those 3 am games. I did watch the final match up and was a lil disappointed in Kahn’s mistakes but the better team won this battle. I was very shocked at USA’s run at the title and at the same time disappointed in our country’s lack of support for the team. Both in public and via televised broadcast. This years coverage quite simply sucked. The commentators Jack Edwards and Ty Keough lack the ability to accurately call the strategy, play by play and even terminology of the sport. As one fello blogger put’s it:

A few of the terms/words I’d never before heard used during a game of football:

Generating some offense…
Climbing the ladder… (going up for a header)
Assists (this isn’t basketball/hockey)
Score! (again, this isn’t hockey)
Quinn, playing in the low post…
The red zone (presumably the 18 yard box)
PK (penalty kick, just call it a penalty please)
A foul called on X player (meaning X fouled Y instead of the other way around)

I must agree with many here that even the cutting off of the trophy ceremony was a discrace of the game. You know a network would never do this during the NBA or Super Bowl finals. Read more: The cup on ABC: Gotta Go!
And so where’s the face painted American’s, the red/white/blue fountains, the parties in the streets…huh? do we even care about global sports…humm…guess not…look at the week coverage of the Olympics….guess we’re too busy making money off the stock market…oop…

As far as spirt this is what I’m talking about:

2nd Sundays

It’s June 9th and the start of the summer is here. Not signified by the change in heat nor the light in the day. But in the San Francisco Dance club scene, the start is when 2nd Sundays Productions kicks off with their summer party. Absolutly wicked. I haven’t seen so many people at Mission rock since last years 2nd Sunday end of the summer party. What can you say but the party rocked, you should have been there and I’ll be back next month. The only sour point was the unskillful set of Shannon Lolongo (more widely known as DJ Dayhota). I know the girl must have skills some where as she’s plastered up as this new up and coming suppa star female dj but shit this girl trainwrecked harder than any Amtrak wreck I’ve seen…must have been on something which even still is not very professional and I would not recommend seeing her again…just hype.

Some pics here of the party but there is no comparison to being there, living it, feeling it and having that memory.

5 Days of Madness in Vegas….

Where do I begin here. Another successful trip. I’m a little late on this post so I’ll just post some pics. But I must say I had a few new realizations as well as remembering some of the typical ones: You really can meet some cool people on the net : What up Nicole!, I will always get burned the first day in Vegas, no matter how much $18 – 45 block I put on or how short I play at the tables, breakfast at 5-6am is the best time to meet women…they won’t be expecting it, I really can lose at poker game… I’m still not a fan (and never will be of Caribbean stud – thanks Shaun for helping me loose two Franklins), I will always win at craps but I suck as a teach for it (sorry Shaun but I got my money back), hook ups in Vegas are a must, Shaun you finally asked her…took you damn long enough but we gonna party, Drais is still phat, Rain is cool spot but I think they need better DJs (ME) and if it actually Rained something in there (like free drink tickets!) everyone would have a better time, Rum Jungle is cool but small d-floor, Velvet is a cool location but not set up well for a club, always pass on 9 Jeager shots (at least you didn’t end up in a gutter some where like last time!) and 5 days partying on the strip in Vegas is 2 too many.

I’ll leave you with a few pics from the cam…about the only time I took this out with me was to the clubs and even then I didn’t think much to pull it out still we got to Drais…
