A Condom Fashion Show in China

Models parade in outfits made of condoms during a fashion show at the 4th China Reproductive Health New Technologies & Products Expo in Beijing July 11, 2007. Condoms of all shapes and sizes were used to make dresses, hats and even lollipops. Models fought through extravagant soap bubble special effects to show off tight-fitting wedding gowns, scaly-looking evening dresses, outrageous bikinis and other garments made entirely of condoms. The show was held at the Fourth China Reproductive Health New Technologies and Products Expo and organized by China’s largest condom manufacturer, Guilin Latex Factory, to promote the use of condoms in the fight against HIV/AIDS. It also marked World Population Day, organized annually by the U.N. Population Fund.

Drinking treated waste water

Being someone that’s worked at a water reclimation plant for some time, I understand the importance of safe drinking water standards for citizens, as well as the need for high standards for our treated effluent. If the source of this water has been processed to exceptional standards for proper dumping in national watersheds, the drinking of this water may taste bad but shouldn’t be too detrimental to your health. It’s unfortunate that the plumbers for this development were so incompetent to not notice they were piping the wrong line into the house.

Politics is not Sports

Just a few days ago, the AFL-CIO democratic debates aired and I assume you probably didn’t watch this (I didn’t but I got the highlights). A retired and disabled AFL-CIO union member, Steve Skvara, presented a question at the debate for John Edwards. This was the only time during the entire debate where a standing ovation was offered a participant… and it wasn’t for a politician.

I maintain that this should be answered by all politicians (dems, reps, libs, whips whatever). Any American (think your parents first) could fall into a dire situation similar to Steve with nowhere to turn for what must be considered the most basic of human rights — health care. We are the only free industrialized nation in the world that has been conditioned to think of health care as only a “benefit” and not a mandatory service. This MUST change!

What ever your opinion is, I do hope you get involved in the process somewhere along the line… even if to pass this message on to those that would listen to at least this mans plea.
