TNT straight from the Bay in NYC

As prefaced in the last post. I had a few friends from the bay come through ny. This week was quite the eclectic mix bag of drinkin and unique NY flair. The pics below and in the gallery are of the NY Yankee’s game with the Oakland A’s visiting (unfortunately the A’s lost this round but they made up for it in the series) and the club BED in the meat packin area. BED was by far a spot I’d frequent primarily because the music/dj sucked top forty balls – which probably contributed to our group getting completely tossed on the vodka sodas…

Also this week I visited a piano bar in the west village where the locals sing show tunes, Bobs and a few other spots in the lower east side and Ninja restaurant.

Ninja New York is a theme restaurant based off the original Japanese version where the interior is a maze of decor designed to depict a Ninja castle or cave with staff dressed the part of Ninjas but hardly took the act any farther with their lack in enthusiasm for the theme. The food was excellent and presented uniquely, however, over priced and light on the portions. The added bonus is a table magicial which we had to ask for to be included in our “show” and dispite the parlor tricks added a little entertainment to the meal. I wouldn’t venture back but the location seemed wrong in Tribeca, maybe would do better near Times Square.

With the visit I was introduced to a few new friends out here, Magri, Marco, Julie, Khun, and Romy. And a few not friendly cats – after the gallery we picked up a few new peeps and one of which turned out to be a shady Swiss lass with her skippin out on paying the ninja bill and purse stealing at the end of the night. I had hoped for the best with adub but little more was discussed of this mistress after that drunken night…

Theosky and Tsientong invade New York Gallery

Sing along with the beat…or the core-ass…

So 11 pm I head out on a Monday night… not the norm but I have the 2nd round of friends in town (remember)… Margerie (I still think I’m spelling that wrong) picks out her usual spot, that “makes me feel good every time I go”. It’s Rose’s Turn in Greenwich village on Grove st., a piano bar full of show tunes and sassy older gentlemen. I’m not a show tunes type (no where near) but I can appreciate some tallent and these flamboyant boys have some lungs.

After 3 Greygoose n crans and a comp’d fruity shot from the flirty bar maid – she was flirtin with M – , we head to the east side to Pyramids for some dnb. We walked in to a week crowd and a terrible pour bartendriss (barely a 4 count on a sideways pour of saphire n tonic in a 6 oz plastic cup – weak!). The deck man was doin fine with some broken beat but the party crew was trying to get ready for the headliner at this 10 year running jungle party by the Koncrete Jungle crew.

A-A-A all saw this woman come up and if our jaws didn’t drop upon site, after the first tech-step kick in we were jockin this female dj… The Serrano mixing put me off as far as skills go but she dropped some sick dnb cuts to move the floor and hard for the night…

The night winded down as we tried and failed three times to find a spot to eat until we ended up at French Roast on 6th for beers and some over done french food. I’m hoping that this spot comes through the next time, as this could be a good after hours food spot… but something tells me I’ve got drunk hopes…

Birthday Dream?

For a night we went up to the ultra modern-retro hotel – Dream in NY for a roof top party (which with the top roof closed the bar came as close to a rooftop as does a penthouse balcony). It was a friend’s birthday celebration bitches! Vikram Chatwal’s new hotel is a trip but billed as a “lounge” upstairs, leaves much to be desired. One room looked like a quasi-library set from the movie Clue and the other main lounge was dark and cramped feeling desperate and having little room disease. The only plus to adding space were the rap-around windows of the dance floor yet you’re looking at other high rises and not necessarily a spectacular view. Go for a view (when the rooftop is open) in the day, but just to check it off you’re list to do in NY. I’m sure Scott et al had a great time, as it was only the warm up spot a night time tour of debauchery – Cheers!
