Draft Day and the NFL season

I believe this is my fourth season of Fantasy Football. I made a short attempt at attending to a Baseball team, but never could handle the depth and span of all the players, stats, games and strategy. And plucking eyelid hairs seems more enjoyable than attempting to manage a Fantasy golf team. Being on the east, I had a slight advantage to be well rested, awake and ready for the noon time draft. This year I got stuck with my worst pick level yet at 8th and its automatic that I won’t see LT, Shaun Alexander, or this year’s top pick Larry Johnson…

Given that the strategy is to pick up RBs early, I won’t see a lead QB either – McNab, Mannings or Palmer. I’ll have to settle for rolling the dice on WR and hope that the RBs that I am left with will be supper stars this year.

But in all reality, even if you are in the first few top seeds of the draft, you still need to know some depth in the field to pick some great players. I don’t think anyone in this league except for Wang and Burke have the up front knowledge. Sak and Jared just stumble on dumb luck and talk more shit than they can take.

So this year I think I picked up a good team here it is:
Pick – Rank – Player – Position
1. (8) Steven Jackson (RB)
2. (17) Willis McGahee (RB)
3. (32) Matt Hasselbeck (QB)
4. (41) Roy Williams (WR)
5. (56) Todd Heap (TE)
6. (65) Joe Horn (WR)
7. (80) Tatum Bell (RB)
8. (89) Michael Clayton (WR)
9. (104) Atlanta (DEF)
10. (113) Drew Bledsoe (QB)
11. (128) Heath Miller (TE)
12. (137) David Akers (K)
13. (152) Chad Jackson (WR)
14. (161) Dallas (DER)
15. (176) Travis Henry (RB)

I’m telling you now Travis Henry is the sleeper RB of the year… no one will draft him but he’s going to put up some good numbers this year in Tenn.

Week 2 NFL and there’s some kinks in the armor

This many not be known but of all the pro sports out there, I’m leading with the NFL as my premier sports watching past-time… I love the NFL for the action, the pain, the pressure and the gain. The NBA comes in 2nd, but that’s a discussion to come up when their season starts up. Additionally I’ve been a Raiders fans since I can remember football, the best inspiring moment (and last at that) was their win in SuperBowl XVIII – Black Sunday in 1984….

Tonight is a double header Monday night football, and although I’ll miss most of the first game: The New Orleans Saints “at home” in the Meadow Lands of New Jersey against the NY Giants, I’ll catch some of the ‘Skins and Cowboys tonight at 9 PM ET. So far though this week, we’ve seen some surprises.

The Pats! :: being a Raider fan, I’m loving this. Brady just couldn’t get it together and possibly had the worst game of his career at NE. He even said it him self “‘We sucked today,’ ” Brady said of the team’s post game locker-room talk”. There are chinks in the armor here and the doors are now opening for contenders for the East title. Lets hope it motivates someone (other than the Colts) to make this years playoffs exciting.

McNabb – T.O. :: I won’t get into this drama, but it seems they have no trouble working together on the field. McNabb may have the best performance of the NFL all year with his 5 TDs (record tying for himself) and 342 YDs on Sunday. Brutally destroying my friends in San Francisco. SF’s hopes of doing better than last year may be forever lost. Phili still shows they have it but we’ll see when they play some tougher D’s, however, that may not happen until later on in the season.

Minnesota :: Randy Moss is thanking his stars that he’s out of this mess. Culpepper can’t get any worse from here so there has to be some upside moving forward, but their RB situation is pathetic as well… Those of you who picked DC in the first round are kicking themselves right now.

Where’d they come from? – Willie Parker (Pit, RB), L.J. Smith (Phi, TE), Trent Dilfer (Clev, QB), and Antwaan Randle El (Pit, WR) and coming up with big numbers this week. Who would have thought this 4 weeks ago?

Starting to shine – Randy Moss (Oak, WB), Stephen Davis (Car, RB), Carnell Williams (TB, RB) Antonio Gates (SD, TE), and Hines Ward (Pit, WR)

Its still early but I hear the rumor mill running now. Predictions are already starting to float to Carolina… We’ll see, there’s a lot of football left to go.

Regarding Fantasy Football: I still can never get a good draft card, and was selecting 3rd to last this year on a 12 man league draft, however, I ended up with a few good players but am really lacking in the RB department these days. My team consists of:

K. Collins (Oak, QB)
D. McNabb (Phi, QB)
D. Mason (Bal, WB)
L. Coles (NYJ, WB)
B. Stokley (Ind, WB)
J. Lewis (Bal, RB)
T. Jones (Chi, RB)
T. Bell (Den, RB)
A. Randel El (Pit, WB)
T. Heap (Bal, TE)
C. Cooley (Was, TE)
M. Baker (Phi, TE)
S. Janikowski (Oak, K)
and some D guys…

Week 1 was a bomb for me, Week 2 I’m on top… so I still see my chances at the middle of the pack, but will need to do some shuffling to get on top. Watch out IRON COCK!
