This is not Detroit, man, this is the Super Bowl!

I watched both the Jets-Colts and Vikings-Saints game on Sunday. The Jets made it close in the first half, until Manning decided to step up and stop playing games with the Jets D line. The more exciting and excruciatingly painful game was the Vikings-Saints.

The Viks had every opportunity to win that game as a team with 4 turnovers going driving down the field the last few minutes of the 4th quarter, and a tied score on the field – the miracle was about to happen. Even the stupid 12 man penalty was forgotten when a field goal for the win was looking to be in reach. When Farve stepped up to throw what might be his last pass of his career:

Paul Allen of KFAN Radio in Minneapolis-St. Paul said it best, Brett could have taken a knee or ran up the field a few yards but did not need to force the throw. Toni Monkovic of NY Times notes the irony of both the blown play and one of the greatest of the season, held by Bret Farve this season.

With the 2010 game being the first Saints Superbowl, I’m on the side of Drew Brees to take the Gold and Black to the title.

Celtics wipe the floor with the the Lakers for 17th Championship

A good series but the Lakes didn’t put together a good fight (they didn’t have a Shaq). I’m not a true NY fan according to a few guys I met at St. Andrew’s last night watching game 6 of the finals. Apparently true NY fans don’t root for any Boston teams no mater what. I supposed that’s the same as a Northern California fan such as myself not rooting for any SoCal teams (LA Lakers, LA Dodgers, Anaheim Angles, LA Kings, LA Clippers and even the San Diego Padres)…. and I like to see the Lakes lose. Well they did it in record fashion, having now the most losses of any team reaching the NBA championship series.

This year truly the better, all around team, won the Championship. Having one supper star does not win championships and certainly having no defense, true example for LA’s meltdown in game 6, does not win championships. The Celtics looked like the 96 Bulls with their all around play, defense and just strength in both the paint and on the 3 line. You knew there was power there when in game 4 they produced the largest come from behind win (down 24) in game 4 to put the clovers up with a commanding series lead of 3-1.

I’m also a KG fan and am happy to see he made the change this year to Boston and helped take the team to his first championship (defensive player of the year 08). As he said “Anything is possible.” Congrats to Ray Allen, Paul Pierce (series MVP), and their star bench.

Weekender

A couple good finds this weekend. Saturday went out all night with the locals to watch the final four at a friends house in the upper west. Unfortunately G-town went down even after I thought they had the momentum to take it. The Gators came out on top with a stomping of the best defensive team in the country, UCLA. Great work as the Gators have a repeat of their Florida match up, with Ohio St (keep in mind the Gators blew out Ohio the last time they played, by 26 points).

Off to the Mill, the Gator’s central haven in NY for a few pitchers, games and the gator chants… “It’s great to be…” Not long after we broke off to go to Karma, a spot I will never go to again.

How ironic their name begets a tranquil and positive vibe, when the environment, employees and management promote nothing of the sorts. For one, there’s a line to get in, once in, the spot is barely 30% occupancy. I despise bars/clubs that create an artificial line to give the illusion, it’s a hot spot and they are at capacity. Drinks here are expensive and when asked for a hookah I was charged 15$ for what I found out was actually a $10 charge for girls or other patrons. Not sure if the surcharge was to add a tip for the waitress but this was bull shit. Last they have DJ playing dance tunes for both the upstairs and downstairs, yet they don’t have a cabaret license and will use this excuse to selectively kick out the guys to improve the girl-guy ratio they try to maintain.

So when half my friends were asked to leave, and not the women they were dancing with, we bounced.
