I’m Rich… and Drunk!

The Journal of Labor Research claims to have a proof study that shows all us alcoholics are better off than anyone else…. That’s right drinkers are better off than non-drinkers.

“Social drinking builds social capital,” said Edward Stringham, an economics professor at San Jose State University and co-author of the study with fellow researcher Bethany Peters.

“Social drinkers are out networking, building relationships, and adding contacts to their BlackBerries that result in bigger paychecks.”

The problem with this study is that this hypothesis is as they admit based on “casual observation and examination of scholarly accounts”. Which means just by watching drunks at a bar and observing their paychecks they’ve made the claim that drinkers are richer than those poor bastards that don’t go out and can’t afford the $10 cocktail and hence don’t socialize in those liquor fuels settings… hmmm… quite observant guys!

Funny how this article does not point out that socializing in bars under the influence is a direct result of the chemical reactions to alcohol – its called intoxication.

Mindless fun if you want to read the whole story:

TNT straight from the Bay in NYC

As prefaced in the last post. I had a few friends from the bay come through ny. This week was quite the eclectic mix bag of drinkin and unique NY flair. The pics below and in the gallery are of the NY Yankee’s game with the Oakland A’s visiting (unfortunately the A’s lost this round but they made up for it in the series) and the club BED in the meat packin area. BED was by far a spot I’d frequent primarily because the music/dj sucked top forty balls – which probably contributed to our group getting completely tossed on the vodka sodas…

Also this week I visited a piano bar in the west village where the locals sing show tunes, Bobs and a few other spots in the lower east side and Ninja restaurant.

Ninja New York is a theme restaurant based off the original Japanese version where the interior is a maze of decor designed to depict a Ninja castle or cave with staff dressed the part of Ninjas but hardly took the act any farther with their lack in enthusiasm for the theme. The food was excellent and presented uniquely, however, over priced and light on the portions. The added bonus is a table magicial which we had to ask for to be included in our “show” and dispite the parlor tricks added a little entertainment to the meal. I wouldn’t venture back but the location seemed wrong in Tribeca, maybe would do better near Times Square.

With the visit I was introduced to a few new friends out here, Magri, Marco, Julie, Khun, and Romy. And a few not friendly cats – after the gallery we picked up a few new peeps and one of which turned out to be a shady Swiss lass with her skippin out on paying the ninja bill and purse stealing at the end of the night. I had hoped for the best with adub but little more was discussed of this mistress after that drunken night…

Theosky and Tsientong invade New York Gallery

Back in the B.A.Y.

This weekend headed to Cali again, early to see friends and family and for a week in San Diego to start training for a new position based in NYC. This weekend I filled up on mom’s cooking, toured the bay to see all my friends that won’t commit to come to NYC for a visit, hit up a few SF hot spots for birthday celebrations and catch up with all the gossip and local word on the streets from friends and family (Hi Grandma!).

Thursday I left on the old blue faithful – JetBlue, of which I’ve become a devote customer and look to the big JB first for all my flights: DirectTV, drinks, snacks and hot young nurses… what more do you want in an airline. Taking the camera out this last weekend didn’t happen so deal with a few club shots from both Wish and Ruby – I couldn’t tell you who was spinning (well I heard Bad Boy Bill was at Ruby but it didn’t sound like the Bill I had heard in the past).

Mike G had his fill of action at Wish and boned out early, Morg and Gabby were sippin cocktails all night when I arrived tardy from taking the tour through Mountain View and a stop by TM’s condo. Stella was klankin but the night was called and I played lost tourist for Gab before heading 45 mins back to my side of the bay.

Friday morning, pops and I hit the links in Sunol. I remember a time when I could play this course for a dollar after school and if it weren’t for the nearly free time I wouldn’t be coming out to the greens as much. Shot a few pics of the live turkeys and the course, before heading out to the Livermore Valley Wine Country Championship at Wente vinyards tournament. Rain killed the fun but not before Jeff Quinney jumped to an early lead. Unfortunately he couldn’t hold on to it and Tripp Isenhour took away his fair share of the $600,000 purse.

Back to Saturday, which was a great afternoon and then off to SF again for Darin and Morgs celebration. Nothing was planned, major. Good to catch back up with Mike gggggg for a few and tip back beers before heading out NY style at 12 for the club. We jumped in but I found myself chatting up friends upstairs most of the night. I make the unfortunately mistake of walking back to Mike’s through the Tenderloin but good thing, all the crackheads thought I was some crazy cracka too (I wish I could have documented that stroll).
