Big updates for the sports world today. First the 2009 NBA Hall of Fame nominations came out and we have the “The Admiral” (David Robinson), “Stock” (John Stockton) and “His Airness”, Michael Jordan all nominated in this year. Jordan was the reason I got into basketball, why I bought Nikes and his retirement has also been the reason why my interest has waned. The Bulls no.3 over all pick even influenced my gear as I rolled the original 85 starter jacket and Air Jordan Is.
Robinson, the second of the “twin towers” at the Spurs was a sword foe and his induction just shows if you’re super tall with a little bit of skill you too can make it. Of course even in retirement, there’s always someone over shadowing Stockton.
Baseball season starts today…zzzzzz…
Apparently farting on the pitch is also a referee cardable offense.
Jeff Garcia comes back to the bay area, this time as a Raider. I know a lot of bay area fans, that know Jeff as the kid who took the Niners to the playoffs in 2002-03 and was a 3 time pro-bowler but do they remember Jeff was cut from the Raiders camp even before he became a Niner?
To me the move is actually a quality pickup for the Raider organization. They’ll now have a quality back up that can easily step in and run the offense if JR fails or gets hurt. He’ll push JR and he’s got the mentoring experience.
Personally speaking I’m not a fan of Garcia. I’ve met him once when he and TO used to cruise Santana Row for easy talent to bang at TO’s shag shack. One late winter evening in Santa Clara, I received a call from a giddy intoxicated female I happen to be dating. She felt compelled to brag about her “conquest” of banging Garcia when she was still at his house. She had stopped taking her lithium and apparently we weren’t exclusive so what else should I expect from a [degrading expletives deleted]. Jeff has ended up with quite possibly one of the hottest player’s wives that I can recall: Carmella DeCesare and I think he owes me for not spilling his cheating ways when I saw him again…
Last the NCAA finals are tonight and although I know the Tar Heels will kill it, I’m rooting for Michigan State.
