Today a coordinated attack was executed on the public train system in Mumbai, India during afternoon rush hour. 7 blasts in less than 11 minutes killed more than 200 people and more than 300 are injured. Shortly after the blasts, New York went on high alert and will continue to be so throughout the week as a precautionary measure to the events.
At this point US media is putting the blame on only Al-Qaeda which is to be expected since our administration is continuing its front face against terrorism. Newer reports claim Islamic terrorism is to blame:
Reported in Time (Link): India is home to a Muslim insurgency in Kashmir, and earlier in the day militants killed eight people and injured 30 in five separate bomb attacks in the capital, Srinagar. And while no one said those same insurgents carried out Tuesday’s rush-hour train attacks in Bombay which police said killed at least 130 people and injured 260 security sources told TIME they suspected a shadowy alliance of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) working with indigenous Indian Muslims from the banned Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).
It was noted to me that the day of the 11th has Islamic significance and that it’s not a coincidence that the WTC bombings (Sept 2001), the bombings on Madrid trains (March 2004) and these now in Mumbai (July 2006) were all perpetrated on the 11th day of the month.
