Draft Day and the NFL season

I believe this is my fourth season of Fantasy Football. I made a short attempt at attending to a Baseball team, but never could handle the depth and span of all the players, stats, games and strategy. And plucking eyelid hairs seems more enjoyable than attempting to manage a Fantasy golf team. Being on the east, I had a slight advantage to be well rested, awake and ready for the noon time draft. This year I got stuck with my worst pick level yet at 8th and its automatic that I won’t see LT, Shaun Alexander, or this year’s top pick Larry Johnson…

Given that the strategy is to pick up RBs early, I won’t see a lead QB either – McNab, Mannings or Palmer. I’ll have to settle for rolling the dice on WR and hope that the RBs that I am left with will be supper stars this year.

But in all reality, even if you are in the first few top seeds of the draft, you still need to know some depth in the field to pick some great players. I don’t think anyone in this league except for Wang and Burke have the up front knowledge. Sak and Jared just stumble on dumb luck and talk more shit than they can take.

So this year I think I picked up a good team here it is:
Pick – Rank – Player – Position
1. (8) Steven Jackson (RB)
2. (17) Willis McGahee (RB)
3. (32) Matt Hasselbeck (QB)
4. (41) Roy Williams (WR)
5. (56) Todd Heap (TE)
6. (65) Joe Horn (WR)
7. (80) Tatum Bell (RB)
8. (89) Michael Clayton (WR)
9. (104) Atlanta (DEF)
10. (113) Drew Bledsoe (QB)
11. (128) Heath Miller (TE)
12. (137) David Akers (K)
13. (152) Chad Jackson (WR)
14. (161) Dallas (DER)
15. (176) Travis Henry (RB)

I’m telling you now Travis Henry is the sleeper RB of the year… no one will draft him but he’s going to put up some good numbers this year in Tenn.

Fuck Norv Turner… he should be fired!

The guy is two years into his 3 year contract and he can’t put together an offence (with Moss, Jordan, Porter, and Collins) and a defense (with Sapp, Burgess, and Morrison). Then I show up to my local spot, the Village Tavern (a west village hang out spot with a dozen flat screens, the NFL game day package and free food at the half time breaks!!!), and the Jets and Raiders are going at it today. We could have gone to the game as tickets couldn’t even be given away – Jets were easily one of the worst teams in NFL…

…and then the news… Norv is benching Collins in replacement for Marques Tuiasosopo… Tui who?!? Where did this guy come from and why is he in place of a top 10 QB?!? Tui has been warming the pine for 5 years and Norv thinks this is a great time to put him in and see what he can do against a sub par team. Wow were we spanked this time, and I’m calling for Norv’s head!

This has to be one of the most idiotic decisions in management history or just classic Raider management… Collins, the obvious Raider starter was 4th in the league in passing yards through 13 games (with the sit out, he’s down to 7th). He’s 10th in the league in touchdowns through the same number of games. Tui? Haven’t seen anything productive from him since his 99 Washington Huskies days… and we still haven’t – especially when the Jets had him on the mat 6 times this game.

I mean come on!!! 26 to 10 with no Curtis Marin! I’ll put blame on many people for this game – Jordan didn’t perform at all this round, the offensive line had more holes than Krispy Kreme donuts leading to 4 turnovers, Doug Jolley can’t catch a football to save a career (one that would have lead to a TD!), and like Raider form 13 penalties for 88 given up yards.

Still the decision to remove Collins, I believe, has less to do what the media says as ineffectiveness of Collins and more to do with Norv Turners ineffectiveness to develop plays and an offense that matches up to the abilities of Moss, Jordan and Collins. The result of the removal… the Raiders third loss, and the Jets first win in 9 games… and this is what we saw of Tui —-

With the right coach, motivation and play book, the Raiders still have a shot at playoffs in 06/07 – provided they find someone to get them disciplined – Hey Belichick! Get out of NE while you’re still up and come out to sunny cali to start up a new dynasty!

The Vik’s just get better..off the field

Follow up on the Vikings story… Since there’s nothing about them to talk about on the field:

One week after several Vikings players held a lewd party on a Lake Minnetonka boat, two players were seen throwing trash in a dumpster at a construction site in Eden Prairie. 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS obtained exclusive access to the trash – and the information it revealed….

The list was titled “Incoming Flights (pickups)” and was written on a piece of Minnesota Vikings paper. It contained women’s names, airlines and flight times. The names ‘Iris and Liris’ are at the top, followed by ‘Nivie + 5’, ‘Ayana and Dionne and Aisha’, ‘Sandra’ and ‘Tanika plus 3’. The total is 16….

….Ayana Angel is well known for operating all over the U.S. On her Web site she describes herself as a courtesan, which the dictionary defines as a prostitute with upper class clientele. The site also directs visitors to her starring roles in several triple x-rated movies….

“I really was legitimately going to go,” Angel says. “Actually, I didn’t go because they had a similar situation here with some other football players. But it’s something they do every year.”

Angel says every year Vikings players bring in girls from Atlanta for a rookie party. “They’re mostly strippers that they fly up and – given the situation – if you pay them, they’ll do extracurricular activities,” Angel says.

According to Angel, the price is roughly $1,500…
